UNDERSTAND THE SCIENCE

The physics behind the experiment

An ideal ohmic resistor obeys V = IR. Current I = V/R and dissipated power P = VI = V²/R. The simulation assumes an ideal DC source, negligible wire resistance and a constant resistor temperature.

Try this guided investigation

  1. Set V = 6 V and R = 12 Ω. Compute current before reading the meter.
  2. Double the voltage while leaving resistance unchanged.
  3. Restore V and halve the resistance. What happens to electric power?

All numerical values follow the model assumptions stated here; artwork is schematic, not a scale engineering drawing.
